Week 3 - Time Management and Study Strategy, Weekly Update, Reflections
Part 1:
Study Tips
Using this website, I got to read up on some important tips that I need to adopt in order to work on areas that I need to improve in regarding studying.
One of the study tips that really helped me was the prioritization tip. It said to prioritize by importance using the ABC method. This is extremely important because we fall behind due to a lack of prioritizing assignments which leads to procrastination since we don't really know what to start with or do at the time.
Part 2:
Ethics
I learned a lot this week through our different course material. One thing we went into depth on was on the topic of ethics. Ethics plays an important and big role in the world and always will. Life without ethical behavior and the ethical mindset would be a total mess. On this topic, we read up on general principals, avoiding harm, honesty and trustworthiness, justice, respect, privacy, and much more. We are also now starting to write a paper on this topic and had to submit a topic for approval.
This week we also had another team activity with our group members to further our teamwork skills and I think we are doing pretty well getting used to working with each other.
Part 3:
We read up on a lot of material this week and the first article I want to talk about is "What every computer science major should know" by Matt Might. He talks about how its really important to build a portfolio as a student and new graduate. That one should be really grounded in the coursework they learn in this field such as different programming languages, structures, mathematics, design, logic, etc. He emphasizes on practical knowledge so we have something to show employers and actual skills that will help us grow over the years.
Another read we had was on the policies of the online program we are taking. This article talked about student integrity, academic policies, communication, etc. A good student-guide in case anyone has any confusion on expectations.
The next read was a very important one. It was about the code of integrity for this program. Strict guidelines are mentioned to ensure students take the most benefit from this online program to further their skills and future opportunities.
We also watched a few videos on the topic of artificial intelligence. The presenters talked about the dangers and the advancements of AI. They talked about how over the years, technology is evolving faster and faster. The second presenter, Mustafa, says that it is advancing towards the good side and is helping and will help humanity in the future as well.
Part 4:
The CS Online Code of Integrity guidelines talk about a number of important matters and rules. The first rule is that we aren't allowed to submit code other than our own. The second is that we can't share our code with others. The third is to note any assistance received for that specific program or code. These are an important set of rules which are set to maximize our learning potential in this online program in order for us to not waste time. We aren't here for no reason. Our purpose for this degree is to actually learn and implement our knowledge and to benefit society with our implementation.
